GEARBOX CARE, DONE PROPERLY
WHAT IS A TRANSMISSION SERVICE?
A transmission service checks gearbox condition, fluid quality and transmission operation to help maintain smooth, reliable gear changes.
At Brumby Motors, we diagnose transmission faults first, then service or repair the system using the correct fluid and procedures for the vehicle.

KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS
WHEN SHOULD YOUR TRANSMISSION BE CHECKED?
Transmission problems often start with subtle changes in shifting, vibration or unusual noises. Having the system checked early can help prevent further damage and more costly repairs.

Delayed Gear Changes

Hesitation when shifting from Park to Drive may indicate a transmission issue.

Slipping Gears

The engine revs but the vehicle does not accelerate properly.

Shuddering or Vibration

Unusual movement during gear changes can indicate a fault.

Warning Lights

Transmission or check-engine lights should be diagnosed promptly.

Unusual Noises

Whining, clunking or grinding during shifting may indicate wear or damage.

Fluid Leaks

Transmission fluid is often reddish and should not be leaking beneath the vehicle.

Burning Smell

Overheated or degraded transmission fluid may produce a burning odour.

THE RIGHT SERVICE FOR YOUR TRANSMISSION
AUTOMATIC VS MANUAL TRANSMISSION SERVICE
Both automatic and manual transmissions benefit from periodic fluid changes.
Automatic transmissions generate more heat and gradually contaminate the fluid with fine wear particles. A fluid service replaces old fluid with fresh fluid to the correct specification.
Manual gearboxes also benefit from fluid replacement, commonly around every 40,000–60,000 km depending on the vehicle and how it is used.
DON’T ASSUME THE WORST
A GEARBOX FAULT DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN A NEW GEARBOX.

One Brumby Motors customer travelled from Canberra after being told their Audi Q5 required a complete gearbox replacement.

Our technician diagnosed the actual problem as a specific internal component and repaired the fault at a fraction of the cost and time of replacing the entire gearbox. That is why we diagnose before we recommend.
TRANSMISSION EXPERIENCE ACROSS MULTIPLE BRANDS
TRANSMISSION SERVICE FOR EUROPEAN AND ASIAN CARS
We service and repair automatic, manual and dual-clutch transmissions across a wide range of European and Asian vehicles.
DIAGNOSIS BEFORE REPAIR
DOES A TRANSMISSION WARNING ALWAYS MEAN REPLACEMENT?
No.
Transmission faults can come from fluid issues, sensors, internal components, control systems or other related problems. We diagnose the fault first before recommending any major repair.

Clear answers about transmission faults, fluid servicing and gearbox repairs.
How do I know if it’s a transmission problem or something else?
Transmission and engine faults can sometimes produce similar symptoms. A diagnostic scan and road test allow us to assess shift quality, clutch engagement and stored fault codes before identifying the cause.
For many automatic transmissions, servicing may be recommended around every 40,000–60,000 km or every four to five years. Manual transmission intervals vary by vehicle.
Often yes. Fresh fluid can help protect the transmission and improve shift quality. If the transmission has been neglected for a long period, we assess its condition first and advise whether servicing is appropriate.
Yes. DSG and dual-clutch systems require specific fluids and servicing procedures. We service these transmission types on Volkswagen, Audi and other manufacturers.
